Counterweight

Thinking about weight loss or looking for
information on how to lose weight?

Counterweight is an education programme for healthy living and weight management.  It is delivered by the Health Improvement Teams dietitians.

It consists of 6 educational sessions held every 2 weeks over a 3-month period, followed by 2 further reviews within the year.
The aims of the programme are:

To help you change your eating behaviour and physical activity levels for the long term

To help you achieve a medically worthwhile weight loss of between 5-10% of your starting weight

To help you maintain your weight loss

To improve your health generally

If you have someone you wish to refer onto the Counterweight programme or you are an individual wishing to join a Counterweight group please contact the Health Improvement Team for a referral form.

Counterweight is also available through GP practices that participate in the Keepwell programme.

Please note Counterweight is only open to those ages 18 and over with a BMI of 28 and above

POUNDS AND OUNCES

‘cooking for a healthy weight’

‘’Pounds and Ounces’ is our cooking group programme that looks at ways to help you maintain a healthy weight through cooking skills. It focuses on teaching you ways to reduce your calorie
intake and improve your diet through learning about cooking methods, healthy meal choices and menu planning.

The groups are run by one of our specially trained tutors and one of our dietitans or public health nutritionists.

If you are interested in either of the groups above, then please contact:

The Health Improvement Team on 01506 775626 or email HIT@westlothian.gov.uk

There are list of external agencies who can also help – these will be posted shortly

CHANGEnetwork

The network is open to those who have engaged in our weight management programmes (Counterweight and Pounds and Ounces) to provide some support in maintaining change after groups have stopped meeting.

The support network includes a programme of activities and taster sessions for members to try along with benefits such as reduced rate membership to Excite gyms.

If you have been part of our groups and haven’t signed up to the network just contact the Health Improvement Team on 01506 775626
